When you apply for a personal or business loan, we may pull your credit report from major credit bureaus—TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian—to assess your creditworthiness. Afterward, these bureaus may sell your personal information, such as your name and contact details, to other lenders using event-based trigger marketing to solicit your business. While this practice is legal under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), it can lead to unwanted marketing calls and mailings.
To prevent this, you can opt out of having your information sold by calling 1-888-5-OPTOUT or visiting www.optoutprescreen.com, where you can request to stop receiving these calls for five years or permanently. If you have joint credit relationships, both parties must opt out to stop the calls.
Additionally, registering on the National Do Not Call Registry (888-382-1222) can reduce unsolicited calls, though some companies may still ignore it. For a more long-term solution, you can contact your elected representative to advocate for legislative changes regarding trigger marketing practices.
